FAQ
Furnace filter questions, answered
Quick answers about sizes, MERV ratings and ordering filters for delivery in Calgary.
Ready when you are. Ordering takes about a minute.
Order your filtersHow many filters come in a box?
Every box contains 12 filters. A box of 16x25x1 filters is $150.00 CAD (about $12.50 per filter) and a box of 20x25x1 filters is $175.00 CAD (about $14.58 per filter).
What does MERV 8 mean?
MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. It’s a rating from the ASHRAE 52.2 test standard that describes how well a filter captures airborne particles. Higher numbers capture smaller particles.
MERV 8 is a popular choice for homes: it traps common household particles like dust, lint and pollen while still letting a typical residential furnace move air easily. If your furnace manufacturer or HVAC technician has recommended a specific rating, follow their advice.
How do I know which filter size I need?
Pull out the filter that’s in your furnace now and look at the edge of the cardboard frame. The size is printed there, written as width x height x depth in inches, for example 16x25x1 or 20x25x1.
These are nominal sizes, so the real measurements are usually a little smaller (a 16x25x1 often measures about 15.5 x 24.5 x 0.75 inches). That’s normal. Order the size printed on your old filter. Not sure? Make a note in your order and we’ll help you confirm it.
How often should I change my furnace filter?
A common guideline for 1-inch filters is every 1 to 3 months. Check yours monthly and change it sooner if it looks grey and clogged.
You may need to change it more often if you have pets, allergies, a renovation on the go, or during wildfire smoke season. Always follow your furnace manufacturer’s recommendation. A box of 12 covers a full year if you change your filter every month.
Do you deliver throughout Calgary?
Yes. Flash Filters delivers furnace filters to homes throughout Calgary, Alberta: northwest, northeast, southwest, southeast and the inner city. When you place your order, we’ll contact you to confirm your delivery details.
Can I order multiple boxes?
Yes. Choose as many boxes as you need, and you can order both sizes (16x25x1 and 20x25x1) in the same order. Your subtotal updates as you go.
How do I place an order?
Choose your filter size and the number of boxes, then enter your name, email, phone number and Calgary delivery address in the order form and select Place my order. There’s no account to create and no payment taken online. We’ll contact you to confirm your order and arrange delivery.
